Railroad Revival Tour

04/26/11
Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, & Old Crow Medicine Show
Parking Lot on 4th and Waller- Austin, TX

The train they rolled in on!
Okay, back track to lunch in Austin.  We strolled into Kerbey Lane, sat down, and guess who was seated one table away?  Oh, just Clarence Greenwood (AKA Citizen Cope) whom I've blogged about several times before.  It was a sign that this day was about to be special.

Old Crow Medicine Show were first on the bill.  They put on a great show, albeit they were not exactly my cup of tea.  "Wagon Wheel" was a crowd favorite and a fun song to sing along too.

Next up was the much anticipated Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros!  Oh Alexander and Jade!  They were both such characters, just as I'd hoped.  Alex walked into the crowd and later had to admit, "I don't know how to get back onstage..."  Jade laid on the stage and rolled around a lot.  It was just great.  She also looked super cute with her hair grown out a little.  Also of note, Alex made several references to the clouds that night.  See below for picture.  They played everything thing I wanted to hear, including but not limited to: 40 Day Dream, Janglin, and Home!

Mumford and Sons were next.  And honestly, they blew my mind.  Their entire album Sigh No More is really good; but live, they are just something else!  I need to back track here a little... through out the entire show the three bands would play on each other's songs.  It really was magical (you can quote Erin on that one).  Here's their setlist and my esteemed notes on some.  ;)
1. Sigh No More- This is their album opener as well.  It was beautiful and really set the tone for a great set.
2. Roll Away Your Stone
3. Winter Winds- Erin really really wanted to hear this song; and she got her wish!  My only disappointment was that they didn't play "White Blank Page."
4. Below My Feet- This is a new song and was awesome how they were all just jamming with each other towards the end of the song.
5. Timshel- Wow.  Hearing this song love made me fall in love with it.  Seriously, check it out.
6. Little Lion Man (Video by Erin)

7. Lover of the Light- Another new song, and Mumford showed off his drum skills.
8. Lover's Eyes- Yet another new song.
9. Awake My Soul- During this song, I noticed a strong breeze come through and awake the dirt on the ground, it was perfect timing.  This song and singing it with hundreds (thousands? I'm not good with space and numbers?) of other people was spiritual.
10. The Cave- At this point, they invited the Austin High School band on stage.  They JAMMED for a little while and then joined Mumford and Sons for The Cave.  Mumford was dancing his ass off and "conducting" the band.  It was seriously the coolest shit ever.
11. This Train is Bound for Glory- EVERYONE came back out on stage and sang for the closer.  Like I said earlier, they did this throughout the entire show.  It just really showed how "together" they were, it wasn't about being the star of the show, it was about the music and sharing with us and collaborating with each other.  It was an amazing experience and show and I'm so glad me & Erin got to be a small part of it.
The clouds, as promised.
Erin & Me waiting for Mumford to start.
