Even though this was going to be my sixth time to see Steel Train, I was still itching with excitement. I knew it was going to be a blast, per usual. I was also mighty curious to check out Jack’s other band, “fun.” So let’s just get down to it. Gold Motel kicked things off. The lead singer, Greta Morgan had a nice voice and their music let off an exciting, sunny vibe. Very enjoyable! Next on the bill were my boys of Steel Train. Being mainly there for them, as opposed to fun., I was definitely in the minority. But no bother, I sang and danced to my heart’s content. Their set wasn’t as full as I would have liked, but they played their hits and they played them well. Highlights were Bullet, Turnpike Ghost, S.O.G. Burning in Hell, and Firecracker. (Yeah, I realize I basically just listed half their set list.) I also noticed that Justin (on the keys) was singing more backup vocals them I had remembered him doing in shows of past. He sang in a pretty high pitched voice; it would have been rather off-putting if he wasn’t so darn sexy. Most of the guys hung around after their set to watch fun. play. They were real accessible to their fans to take pictures and chat and good stuff like that. Much to the anticipation of the crowd, fun. took the stage next! Like I said earlier, I was curious, but also hesitant. I previewed their album in the weeks prior to the show, and I could really only get into one song. But the lead singer, Nate, had a personality that totally won me over! He was the epitome of charismatic; huge grin on his face throughout their entire set. He even came out into the thick of the crowd and jam danced with us several times. Keep in mind we were in the Bronze Peacock room, which is quite small so we were packed in tight. All in all, it was a great, half-drunken night of FUN. (Pun intended.) Steel Train are sweet, sweet guys who love to play music, and fun. was an awesome show and a band I plan to look into more. Check out the video clips I took below; some are a little sketchy but some aren't half bad!
